This printed newsletter is a semi-quarterly mailer that consists of six pages, or one tabloid sheet of paper folded in half, and a second letter-sized sheet of paper sandwiched in the middle. The front page is folded in on itself so the front of the mailer contains an indicia, return address, mailing address and preview of some of the things that will be covered in each iteration on the front, and a paid ad on the back. It’s held closed with a circular sticker, which also allows easy opening.

The front page resembles a classic newspaper layout.

Each page is arranged to be flexible for a range of story length, photos, title sizes and ad space. All photos are full-color, and typography allows for clear separation of information.

Some of the ads come pre-designed, but the responsibility of designing the internal ads and tweaking several of the external ads falls on me. In some cases, it’s an opportunity to re-acquaint myself with legacy programs like QuarkXPress and Microsoft Publisher. Sometimes businesses can edit their own ads, and sometimes it’s faster and easier to clone, tweak and resize ads for them.
